| A diverse economy: This area of London is really quite extraordinary in its economy. It never had any big corporate businesses, what it had was this mixture of charities, non profit organisations, libertarian movements of various kinds, trade unions, campaigning groups, civil liberties groups, .. it’s where the Big Issue used to be, all sorts of things like that, they were there because it had cheap property and good accessibility and gradually over the years it got its support services as well so it got, for example, all these law firms which specialise in civil rights and sort of radical legal practice, they’re there as well, so you had this really interesting cluster of activity. Secondly you had a lot of transport and distribution things which support central London, it’s where they painted the scenery for the opera, received the beer in big trucks and split it into little trucks to distribute to all the pubs in the centre of London, loads and loads of things like that which occupied all this cheap space around King’s Cross This transcript is part of King's Cross Central - A Development Challenge |
